By law, the government is not allowed to reject Fair Pay Commission decisions.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission hired <a title=\"Professor Phil Lewis\" href=\"http:\/\/www.expertguide.com.au\/!ProfessorPhilLewis!_4796.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Professor Phil Lewis<\/a> to:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Undertake a survey over-viewing recent Australian and international research on minimum wages.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Professor Lewis has recently expressed <a title=\"Phil Lewis on Minimum Wages and inflation\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theaustralian.news.com.au\/story\/0,20867,19870380-601,00.html\" target=\"_blank\">his personal views<\/a> as to what he saw as the effects of increasing the minimum wage. Namely, MORE unemployment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Topics covered include &#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ACCI \u2013 Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry &#8211; Chief Executive, Peter Hendy, says that the ACCI has decided to:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8230; move away from the ideological conflicts that have consumed it during past wage cases in the Australian Industrial relations Commission.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>What does this statement mean and what&#8217;s wrong with the ACCI&#8217;s position?<\/p>\n<p>What does sound economic theory say about raising labor costs above the marginal value of labor\u2019s product? The ACTU (<a title=\"ACTU, Australian Council of Trade Unions\" href=\"http:\/\/www.actu.asn.au\/campaigns\/minimumwages.html\" target=\"_blank\">Australian Council of Trade Unions<\/a>) wrongly claims recent research has falsified this theory. Why is the ACCI so ineffective in challenging the ACTU?<\/p>\n<p>Do wage rates in excess of the inflation rate cause unemployment? Under what conditions do minimum wages cause unemployment?  Under what circumstances do they not cause it? Who flat-out denies the link between the effective minimum wage and unemployment, flying in the face of the evidence and lying about the existence of numerous studies that show otherwise? What does \u201cmarginal productivity theory?? say?
